Presentation: 14/09/2007 - ADNUG - LINQ
Darren Neimke and I are speaking at the Adelaide .NET User Group next week, on Wednesday 14th November.
Darren’s going to be talking about a technology called “JavaScript”, which I could have sworn died a decade ago when Rich Clients took over the world.
Darren Neimke — Developing client-centric web applications with ASP.NET Ajax and VS2008
The imminent release of Visual Studio 2008 includes many new tools and features which make it easier to create differentiated web experiences. These include things such as a new CSS designer, new server controls, and baked-in support for ASP.NET Ajax.
Come along and join the discussion as Darren demonstrates how to use ASP.NET Ajax to build web applications that are truly client-centric.
I, on the other hand, will be talking about technologies which are not past their use-by date
:
Paul Stovell — Introducing LINQ
With Visual Studio 2008, Microsoft will release a set of extensions to the .NET Framework known collectively as “LINQ”, or Language INtegrated Queries. LINQ gives developers the ability to query many data sources, including XML and SQL Server, all from within the strongly-typed comfort of C# or Visual Basic .NET. We expect LINQ to play a part in every .NET application of the future.
In this session, Paul Stovell will look at the changes coming to the C# and VB.NET languages to support LINQ, demonstrate some of the features of LINQ, and offer guidance on real-world LINQ usage.
On Thursday, February 7th next year, I’ll be delivering my Binding Oriented Programming and SyncLINQ talk at the Perth .NET User Group. I plan to stick around in Perth for a few days, so if you’d like to buy me lunch meet up, give me a shout.
Then on Tuesday, February 12 I’ll cross to Melbourne to deliver the same BOP/SyncLINQ talk at the Victoria .NET.

Poor Paul!
When you say:
>> a decade ago when Rich Clients took over the world
I presume you are referring to Internet Explorer right?
Caught your presentation last night, Paul. Great material and presentation style!
(… my mind boggles to have all that come from a 20-ish year old!)
